A petroleum-derived dye that carries a mandatory child-attention warning label in the EU.
Products sold in the EU containing Allura Red must warn that it 'may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children'. California's OEHHA reviewed the evidence in 2021 and concluded synthetic food dyes can cause or worsen neurobehavioural problems in some children. It is a colour, so it adds nothing you can taste or use.
